General Manager appointed for the PinchukArtCentre

Victor Pinchuk, the founder of the PinchukArtCentre, announced today that he has appointed Eckhard Schneider a General Manager of the PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Eckhard Schneider will lead the development of the PinchukArtCentre of all his national and international activities. One of the main future goals will be the development of a new museum in Kiev, which shall become the first and leading artist museum for contemporary art in the 21st century.

Eckhard Schneider will take up his post on the 1st of October 2008.

Victor Pinchuk said: "Eckhard Schneider is an outstanding figure in contemporary art and the Kunsthaus Bregenz is among the most influential museums of modern art in Europe. I am very fortunate that its director has agreed to come to Kiev and I am looking forward greatly to working with him towards realizing my dreams of the new global leading centre for contemporary art".

Eckhard Schneider said: "I am glad and feel very honoured to work with Victor Pinchuk to realize his grand vision and to create and to build up together with him a worldwide leading international centre for the art of our time and the future art generation. I see Victor Pinchuk's vision as a major contribution to international art and to the cultural development of the Ukraine and also to the dialogue between outstanding art works and the growing selfawareness of a society".

Eckhard Schneider has been the director of the Kunsthaus Bregenz, Austria, since 2000. He was born in Germany near Berlin in 1943 and is one of the major personality in the international field of contemporary art. After being director of several institutions in Germany he made the KUB to become one of the leading exhibition spaces in Europe. It was his idea of the mutually fructifying blend of architecture, programming, curatorial practice, education and publications that has made the KUB as a distinctive model in the art world.

During a period of over 30 years he has organized and curated many outstanding exhibitions including Joseph Beuys, Richard Serra, Daniel Buren, Louise Bourgeois, Gilbert and George, Mariko Mori, Olafur Eliasson, Anish Kapoor, Tacita Dean, Cindy Sherman, Carsten Höller, Maurizio Cattelan, Jeff Koons, and recently Re-Object with Marcel Duchamp, Gerhard Merz, Damien Hirst, and Jeff Koons; and Mythos with Joseph Beuys, Douglas Gordon, Matthew Barney, and Cy Twombly.

He was a member of several international committees and juries like the DAAD program in Berlin and the Turner Prize in London. He has written extensively on modern art and is editor of more than 100 publications about the work of leading contemporary artists.
