The Victor Pinchuk Foundation Has Opened its 34th “Cradles of Hope” Neonatal Centre in Lviv
On 14 November 2018, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation opened its 34th “Cradles of Hope” Neonatal Centre in Lviv, on the base of the Lviv Oblast Clinic Perinatal Centre that had renewed its operation after a long reconstruction in June 2018.
The opening the “Cradles of Hope” centre in Lviv is another Victor Pinchuk Foundation’s step in implementing the cognominal project to establish a nation-wide network of neonatal centres aiming at reducing the infant mortality rate in Ukraine. Since 2006, UAH 103 676 012 (USD 13.4 million) has been invested into the project, and 34 Cradles of Hope centres have been provided with up-to-date medical equipment in 25 regions of Ukraine.
The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has purchased medical and computer equipment of an overall value of UAH 6.47 million for the Lviv Cradles of Hope centre neonatal intensive care unit. This includes 2 conventional artificial lung ventilation sets allowing the non-invasive ventilation, 1 high-frequency oscillatory ventilation device, an amplitude integrated electroencephalography cerebral function, 1 open reanimation system and 2 incubators with automatic temperature and humidity control, 3 vital sign monitors with capnography, 3 infusion pumps, 2 high and low irradiation LED phototherapy lamps, an infant ultrasound machine, a photometric hyperbilirubinemia analyzer, and other auxiliary equipment.
This equipment provides for the functioning of 3 beds in the unit, and will allow introducing new techniques to nurse preterm infants. It will include the high-frequency oscillation breathing support for children in extremely heavy conditions where conventional methods of artificial lungs ventilation do not provide the necessary result; the monitoring of neurological condition and brain activity; the latent tetany recognition; it will provide the specialists with better professional possibilities to ensure emergency aid for infants, will bring its level closer to the international standards and improve the survival rate among newborns and the quality of their future life.

Igor Potapov, chief medical officer at the Lviv Oblast Clinic Perinatal Centre: “The most advanced medical equipment that we have received from the Victor Pinchuk Foundation enables us to provide the high quality breathing and infusion therapy at the neonatal intensive care unit, it contributes to the best nursing of preterm babies with extremely low weight and reduces the perinatal, early neonatal and infant mortality rate”.
Since June 2006, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation has opened 34 Cradles of Hope centres in Chernihiv, Volodymyrets (Rivne region), Rivne, Lutsk, Poltava (2 centres), Dnipro (2 centers), Kyiv (3 centers), Chernivtsi, Bakhchysarai, Izmail, Odesa, Simferopol (2 centres), Donetsk, Khmelnytsky (2 centres), Cherkasy, Kropyvnytsky, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zhytomyr, Kharkiv, Kherson, Mykolayiv, Ternopil, Sumy, Uzhgorod, Lugansk, Zaporizhzhia, Vinnytsia and Lviv.
