Victor Pinchuk Foundation has covered cost of maintenance and parts for Kyiv’s Cradles of Hope Centre

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation, as part of its technical support for the Cradles of Hope partner centres, has covered the cost of maintenance of the artificial lung ventilation machine and incubator, and purchased eight sensors for pulse oximeters for the neonatal intensive care unit at the Kyiv Perinatal Centre. The overall cost of the maintenance and expendables has amounted UAH 78 309.00.

The Kyiv Perinatal Centre was established on the base of the capital’s Maternity House 7 in February 2012. The Victor Pinchuk Foundation contributed to its supplies as part of implementation of its philanthropic project Cradles of Hope by providing state-of-the-art medical and computer equipment for the neonatal intensive care unit, worth UAH 4.3 million.

Today, it is the leading maternity hospital in Ukraine by the number of deliveries, specialising in serving preterm deliveries and nursing preterm babies. By the level and quality of its medical services and by statistic figures, the Kyiv Perinatal Centre is one of the best in our country. This establishment is a leader in introducing new tactics of primary breathing stabilisation for premature infants, including: stabilisation of premature babies with gestation period under 32 weeks on pulsating funiculus; use of Neo-Puff high-flow cannulas for breathing stabilisation immediately after the birth and transport from the delivery bloc to the neonatal intensive care unit; early maternal milk enteral nutrition of infants with extremely low weight at birth (from mother or donor) etc.

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation consistently supports the partners not only by providing state-of-the-art medical equipment, but also by covering its updating and maintenance. Over the period between 2012 and 2021, UAH 413 204 has been allocated for such purposes. The unit’s doctors and nurses get involved on a permanent base in all Foundation’s training programmes organised under the Cradles of Hope project.

“We are grateful for the all-around help, thanks to which, our Perinatal Centre is considered to be one of the leaders in Ukraine. We are the largest capacity delivery establishment, and we eagerly share our experience with the professionals from other regions, - director Viktoria Bila Viktoria Bila says. – Over these years, we have created a powerful service for high-profile and multidisciplinary help for preterm infants with low and extremely low weight, and our achievements in nursing such babies are comparable with those in the world’s developed countries. We always remember that invaluable contribution and that impulse for further development that we received from the Victor Pinchuk Foundation thanks to the launch of the Cradles of Hope centre.”

Overall, in the years of cooperation with the Kyiv Perinatal Centre under the Cradles of Hope project (2011-2020), a total of 60 345 babies have been born at this medical institution, including 4 537 newborns who received medical assistance at the intensive care unit. According to the centre's staff, 3 599 babies have been saved thanks to the medical equipment provided by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.
