BDayVyklyk: First Breath project donated three resuscitators to Cradles of Hope centres in Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Ivano-Frankivsk

The charity project BDayVyklyk: First Breath initiated by Ukrainian benefactor Kateryna Sadova raised money and bought three more infant resuscitators NeoPuff TM RD900AEU with medical air compressors in April and May 2022. They were donated to the Cradles of Hope partnership centres of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation at the Kharkiv Regional Perinatal Centre, the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Perinatal Centre and the Chernihiv City Maternity Hospital.

The three maternity hospitals have been working 24/7 since the first days of the military aggression against Ukraine, providing medical care to pregnant women, women in labour and newborn babies. In particular, the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Perinatal Centre has been operating at double capacity due to a leap in births by internally displaced pregnant women who fled from the war zone and frontline regions. The Chernihiv City Maternity Hospital has been in the middle of hostilities for a long time while the Regional Perinatal Centre of the Kharkiv Regional Clinical Hospital is still caught in the thick of combat. Under constant bombardment from the ground and air, teams at these medical facilities have been heroically rescuing the lives of the youngest and weakest Ukrainians.

The equipment donated has given specialists at these medical centres additional professional opportunities to apply modern technology of respiratory support for premature babies in the delivery rooms immediately after they are born. The quality and timely medical help in the first, "golden", as doctors put it, minutes of life determines the further treatment prognosis and results of nursing the babies in critical conditions. In addition, NeoPuff RD900 resuscitators with compressors will ensure emergency treatment of small patients during air raids in specially equipped shelters in maternity hospitals because they are lightweight, mobile, can independently supply compressed air to the devices and provide respiratory support for a long time, which is extremely important in wartime conditions.

The BDayVyklyk: First Breath project has already raised UAH 2,131,329. So far 17 devices have been purchased for Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Uzhhorod, Chernihiv, Khmelnytsky (regional and city perinatal centres), Odesa, Kropyvnytsky, Vinnytsya, Sumy, Zaporizhzhya, Lviv, Dnipro, Rivne and Kharkiv.
