The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has purchased an Olympic Brainz Monitor electroencephalograph for the needs of the OKHMATDYT neonatal centre

Within the framework of the Ukraine Relief Fund, a joint charitable initiative established by the Victor and Olena Pinchuk and the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, Eric and Wendy Schmidt and Schmidt Futures, Robert F. Smith and Vista Equity Partners, Andrew and Nicola Forrest's Minderoo Foundation, Bill Ford, and the General Atlantic Foundation, purchased an Olympic Brainz Monitor electroencephalograph from the world's leading manufacturer NATUS (USA) for the needs of the Neonatal Centre of the National Children's Specialized Hospital OKHMATDYT, worth UAH 1,570,000.00.

The electroencephalograph will be useful for the specialists of the hospital's neonatal centre, who take care of preterm babies and newborns with complex pathologies.

Okhmatdyt Hospital is the main children's hospital in Ukraine, which provides specialised medical, diagnostic and rehabilitation care to more than 20,000 children aged 0-18 years annually. During Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine, children from all regions of Ukraine were admitted to the hospital with various diseases, often accompanied by chronic stress and post-traumatic stress disorder. The hospital concentrated the most difficult to diagnose and treat children from the frontline regions.

Over the past two years, the birth rate in Ukraine has significantly decreased, while the proportion of preterm infants with extremely low birth weight (up to 1 kg) has increased to 11%. At Okhmatdyt, such patients are taken care of by the hospital's neonatal centre. Fortunately, during the terrible tragedy of 8 July, this centre suffered the least and continues to provide medical care to premature babies and newborns with complex pathologies.

These children are at high risk of brain damage. Long-term monitoring of brain activity is an extremely important component of observation and treatment, as it allows timely diagnosis of brain disorders and prompt treatment to avoid possible neurological complications. From now on, this important component of medical care will be provided by a device for continuous electroencephalographic monitoring.

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Ukraine Relief Fund has purchased 280 units of medical equipment, other equipment and supplies worth UAH 60.5 million for medical institutions providing care to newborn babies in 2022-2024. In particular, 67 medical institutions across Ukraine received 167 newborn heating systems, and 14 institutions in the frontline regions received sets of transport incubators and transport ventilators for the safe transportation of newborns and assistance in shelters. In April 2024, the Kherson Regional Children's Clinical Hospital received two powerful oxygen concentrators worth UAH 350,000 for the needs of the intensive care unit, and in June, the Kyiv Perinatal Centre received an electroencephalograph worth UAH 1,570,000.

In July this year, a Russian missile strike severely damaged the infrastructure and equipment of the Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital. In response to this yet another terrible war crime committed by Russia against Ukrainian civilians, Victor and Olena Pinchuk have announced that they will undertake the restoration of the hospital's medical equipment.
