Colin L. Powel arrived in Ukraine on the invitation of Kyiv School of Economics (KSE)

Word version     photos     event     Today, at 11:00 p.m., General Colin L. Powel, the 65-st United States Secretary of State has arrived in Kyiv, Boryspil Airport. The purpose of Collin Powell's visit to Ukraine is to participate in KSE Public Lectures Project by the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) whereby he will deliver a lecture "Democracy and Global World Challenges". At the airport William Taylor, US ambassador to Ukraine, and Tomas Eymond-Laritaz, President of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, met Colin Powell.

In his interview at the airport, Colin Powell said: "I have come to Ukraine to show my respect to the State leaders to speak to the students of Kyiv School of Economics and to assess the development of the country. I am really impressed by the democratic changes that have taken place in Ukraine within recent years".

Tomas Eymond-Laritaz, President of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation pointed out: "We are glad to meet Colin Powell in Ukraine. The lecture that he is going to deliver will be the fourth one since the launch of KSE Public Lectures project organized by Kyiv School of Economics. Pretty recently the KSE students had a chance to listen to a lecture delivered by the ninth president of the World Bank Group, James D. Wolfensohn, and now we have a new guest who is to deliver a lecture on the most pressing issues for Ukraine and there is no doubt that it will be interesting and instructive for the listeners".

Colin Powell is also expected meet the President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko and the Prime Minister of Ukraine Victor Yanukovich.

Colin Powell came to Ukraine in 2005 to visit inauguration ceremony of President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko.

On October 24, Kyiv School of Economics (KSE), within its KSE Public Lectures project is to arrange a lecture that will be delivered by the United States Secretary of State, General Colin L. Powel "Democracy and Global World Challenges".

In his lecture, Colin Powell will describe the delicate process of forging alliances, bringing people and countries together, and promoting universal human ideals of democracy and peace around the world. Throughout his lecture, he will also present the global challenges facing the world and the geopolitical role Ukraine should have in the future

Honorary Chairman of the Kyiv School of Economics, Victor Pinchuk is to participate in the event.

Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) was established by Economic Education and Research Consortium (EERC- www.eerc.kiev.ua) and by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation (www.pinchukfund.org). In doing so, it helps to improve the economic, business, and policymaking environments of Ukraine and neighbouring countries. The Kyiv School of Economics offers an internationally recognized two-year, full time English language Master's Program with focus on Financial Economics, Economic Policy and Economics of Firms, Consumers and Market Structure. The program is taught by international and Western-trained Ukrainian faculty with a strong research background. The KSE Public Lectures are organized on a regular basis by the Kyiv School of Economics for Ukraine's political and business community, inviting world-known scientists, economists, politicians and public figures to Ukraine. The goal of these events is to enlarge the economic debates on the topics most relevant for Ukraine and the world at large. The first conference took place on October 18 2006 with Dr. Francis Fukuyama and Nobel Prize Winner Dr. Robert Engle. The second conference, on January 26 2007, was about the economic future of space exploration. US astronaut of Ukrainian origins Heide Stefanyshyn-Pipper was among the key-speakers. Another lection held recently was "Contemporary economics and its application" by Dr. Robert Pindyck.
