7th Philanthropic Roundtable organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation in Davos, began with a moment of silence for Ukraine

Opening the 7th Davos Philanthropic Roundtable businessman and philanthropist Victor Pinchuk, in the light of the latest developments in Ukraine, asked the audience to begin with a moment of silence to pray for the Ukrainian people, for peace, reason, compromise and reconciliation.

I’m from Ukraine, I’m Ukrainian businessman and you know even in this moment we have in my county huge instability. We never had in our newest history even one drop of blood on the streets, but today we already have four or five people who were killed. I’ve never been so worried about my country, about the future of my country. I don’t want to bring politics in here but I want to ask you to share, as here are hundreds of people from more than 50 countries from 5 continents, I want to ask you to share silence for 60 seconds in which we send our thoughts to the Ukrainian people and we pray for peace, reason, compromise and reconciliation”said Victor Pinchuk.

Among participants who shared concern over the situation in Ukraine and paid tribute to people killed in Kyiv by holding a minute of silence were Tony Blair, the moderator of the 7th Philanthropic Roundtable, Patron of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, the panelists of discussion Sir Richard Branson, Founder of Virgin Group, Bill Gates, Co-Chair and Trustee of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Professor Muhammad Yunus, Founder of Grameen Bank, Chairman of the Yunus Center, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate (2006), as well as special guests: President of Poland (1995-2005) Aleksander Kwasniewski, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, PayPal co-founder Max Levchyn, Hollywood actor Matt Damon, sister of the Facebook founder, founder of Zuckerberg Media Randi Zuckerberg, and 400 participants of the event.
