Historian Niall Ferguson to give public lecture “The Square and the Tower: Networks, Hierarchies, Innovations and Revolution”, at the invitation of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation

On Friday, 22 June 2018, at the invitation of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, Niall Ferguson, historian, writer, senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, and at the Center for European Studies, Harvard, will give a public lecture “The Square and the Tower: Networks, Hierarchies, Innovations and Revolution”. Niall Ferguson will reveal six fascinating rules relating to, inter alia, social networks that together recast the whole history of the modern world.

Ukrainian students, scholars and opinion-makers will take part in the lecture. The lecture venue: Kyiv city art gallery “Lavra” (9, Lavrsky lane Kyiv), starting at 4:00 p.m.

Additionally, on that same day, Niall Ferguson will become a special guest of the 11th Annual Youth Forum of the Victor Pinchuk Fondation’s Zavtra.UA and WorldWideStudies (WWS) scholarship programmes, where he will give a speech during the ceremony of awarding the programme scholars.

As a part of its Public Lectures project launched in 2006, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation regularly invites leading thinkers, politicians and public figures to Ukraine to discuss challenges facing the world and Ukraine. By organizing such a dialogue between world leaders and Ukrainian students, the Foundation has for a decade contributed to fostering a new generation of responsible leaders.

Niall Ferguson, MA, D.Phil., is the Milbank Family Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, and a senior fellow of the Center for European Studies, Harvard, where he served for twelve years as the Laurence A. Tisch Professor of History. He is also a visiting professor at Tsinghua University, Beijing, and the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation Distinguished Scholar at the Nitze School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC. He is the author of fifteen books, including The Pity of War, The House of Rothschild, Empire, Civilization and Kissinger, 1923-1968: The Idealist, which won the Council on Foreign Relations Arthur Ross Prize. He is an award-making filmmaker, too, having won an international Emmy for his PBS series The Ascent of Money. His many other prizes include the Benjamin Franklin Prize for Public Service (2010), the Hayek Prize for Lifetime Achievement (2012) and the Ludwig Erhard Prize for Economic Journalism (2013). In addition to writing a weekly column for the Sunday Times (London) and the Boston Globe, he is the founder and managing director of Greenmantle LLC, an advisory firm. He also serves on the board of Affiliated Managers Group. His new book, The Square and the Tower, was published in the U.S. in January.
