Challenges for philanthropy in Ukraine: The welfare/ policy dichotomy

Two events this year have significantly influenced the understanding of charity's role in Ukraine. The first was the Philanthropic Roundtable held by the Viktor Pinchuk Foundation at the World Economic Forum in Davos. It was the first philanthropy-related event to be hosted there by Ukraine and featured prominent speakers such as George Soros, Dr Tadataka Yamada, Global Health Program President at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Ukraine's First Lady, Kateryna Yushchenko, Chair of the Ukraine 3000 Foundation, and Robert Harrison, the Clinton Global Initiative's CEO. The second event was the conference 'Development of charity in Ukraine: from positive practices to favourable legislation' held by the Ukrainian Philanthropists Forum (UPF). This brought together a record number (over 80) of CEOs of active private and corporate foundations in Ukraine. They engaged in a heated debate on various topics. The 12th mental health center of the nationwide RETURNING network opens in Zhytomyr

A comfortable, inclusive, and modern RETURNING (ПОВЕРНЕННЯ - ukr.) mental health center for service members, veterans, and their families has opened in Zhytomyr. This is the twelfth center in the nationwide network founded by Victor and Olena Pinchuk to support the mental health of Ukraine’s defenders, veterans, and their families affected by the psychological consequences of war.



The Victor Pinchuk Foundation provided assistance to three healthcare institutions treating newborn babies

For over 20 years, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation has been systematically supporting partner centres of the Cradles of Hope programme, which are engaged in nursing and treating newborn babies. Every year, the Foundation allocates funds for the purchase and repair of equipment, components and consumables to ensure uninterrupted operation. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, this assistance has been significantly increased, especially for medical facilities that continue to operate in close proximity to the front line or provide assistance to large numbers of internally displaced persons.

On February 24, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation and Yalta European Strategy held a special YES gathering on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
