Challenges for philanthropy in Ukraine: The welfare/ policy dichotomy

Two events this year have significantly influenced the understanding of charity's role in Ukraine. The first was the Philanthropic Roundtable held by the Viktor Pinchuk Foundation at the World Economic Forum in Davos. It was the first philanthropy-related event to be hosted there by Ukraine and featured prominent speakers such as George Soros, Dr Tadataka Yamada, Global Health Program President at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Ukraine's First Lady, Kateryna Yushchenko, Chair of the Ukraine 3000 Foundation, and Robert Harrison, the Clinton Global Initiative's CEO. The second event was the conference 'Development of charity in Ukraine: from positive practices to favourable legislation' held by the Ukrainian Philanthropists Forum (UPF). This brought together a record number (over 80) of CEOs of active private and corporate foundations in Ukraine. They engaged in a heated debate on various topics. The Victor Pinchuk Foundation launches the application process for WorldWideStudies scholarship grants to study at the world’s best universities

On February 1, 2022, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation launched the 13th competition for the WorldWideStudies program that since 2009 has been enabling talented Ukrainian youth to receive grants for studying at Master's programs in the top 200 world universities. The program’s goal is to form a group of professionals capable to become a driving force for the transformation of Ukraine.

“Time for the West to assume the worst”: Conclusions of the roundtable discussion “How to support Ukraine and deter Kremlin aggression”

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation, the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center and Yalta European Strategy hosted a roundtable discussion “How to support Ukraine and deter Kremlin aggression” in Kyiv. A delegation of retired US ambassadors and former government officials and experts focused on how Ukraine and its Western partners can work together to deter the threat of a new Kremlin offensive against Ukraine, which would also be a major blow against NATO, EU, and American interests.

On Monday, January 31, 2022, from 8:30 am to 10:30 am EST, the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center, Yalta European Strategy and the Victor Pinchuk Foundation will hold a public in-person roundtable discussion “How to support Ukraine and deter Kremlin aggression”. The event will take place at Hyatt Kyiv Regency in Kyiv.
