American Curator Peter Doroshenko Appointed as the President of PinchukArtCentre

Peter Doroshenko, the director of one of the largest in Europe BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art (Gateshead, England), has been appointed as the President of PinchukArtCentre. Together with its founder and Ukrainian curators, Doroshenko as an international expert will form the strategy of development of the contemporary art center.

Having a unique experience of work in the world of contemporary art both in the USA and Europe, Peter Doroshenko will make an important contribution to the development of PinchukArtCentre and its worthy representation on international scene. Peter Doroshenko, an American of Ukrainian origin, always has been paying a special attention to promotion of the Ukrainian contemporary art.

This year, being the commissioner of the Ukrainian pavilion, Peter Doroshenko will present Ukraine during the Biennale di Venezia 2007.

About Peter Doroshenko:

Peter Doroshenko was born in 1962 in Chicago, the USA. Since 2005 he is the director of one of the largest in Europe BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art (Gateshead, England).

In 2003-2005 Doroshenko was the director of the Museum for Contemporary Art S.M.A.K. (Stedelijik Museum Voor Actuele Kunst), Ghent, Belgium. Over the last 15 years, he has been holding the positions of director and curator in a number of various institutions for contemporary art: the Institute of Visual Arts, Milwaukee, the USA; the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, the USA; the Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, the USA.

In the last five years, Doroshenko has organized a lot of individual exhibitions of such artists as Maurizio Kattelan, Kim Soa, Louisa Lambri, John McCracken, Sergey Bratkov, Ilya Chichkan, etc.

Peter Doroshenko contributed to writing of several books and to creation of a great number of exhibition catalogues. Since 1999, he has been giving lectures in Houston School of Art, and since 2004 - in schools in Vienna, Antwerp and New York. In 2002, the government of France awarded Doroshenko with the Diploma of the Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters.

In the second half of 90's, he was a member of the supervisory board in Soros Center for Contemporary Art, Kiev, Ukraine. In 2007, Peter Doroshenko has been appointed as the president of PinchukArtCentre.


PinchukArtCentre is one of the largest centers of contemporary art in the Eastern Europe. Its main activities include running exhibition, support for cultural projects, stipend granting to talented artists, etc. The first "New Space" exhibition, opened at PinchukArtCentre from September 16th to December 16th 2006, has been attended by 35 000 persons.

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation and the PinchukArtCentre present Still Joy — From Ukraine into the World as an official Collateral Event of the 61st International Art Exhibition — La Biennale di Venezia. It will be held at the Palazzo Contarini Polignac in Venice from May 9th until August 1st, 2026.

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has provided support to three ‘Cradle of Hope’ partner centres in Sumy, Zhytomyr and Chernivtsi

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has paid for equipment repairs and purchased components for the neonatal intensive care units of three ‘Cradle of Hope’ partner centres based at the Sumy Regional Clinical Perinatal Centre, the Zhytomyr Regional Perinatal Centre and the Chernivtsi Regional Children’s Hospital, at a total cost of 420,000 hryvnias.
