Nineteen Ukrainians have visited the " Olympic Games of the Art World" in Venice

The winners of "Art-Summer in Venice with PinchukArtCentre" Quiz Program have returned to Ukraine from the "Olympic Games of the Art World". During three-day tour around Venice, nineteen quiz winners accompanied by a curator visited the main exhibition of the 52nd Venice Biennale in Arsenal, national pavilions of different countries located at the central alley of the Giardini and the Ukrainian Pavilion in Palazzo Papadopoli represented by PinchukArtCentre. The tour itinerary also included walking and bout tours around the old part of Venice.

According to Oksana Asaulenko, one of the winners from Cherkassy City, - "this tour is an important breakthrough of my cultural education. After we'd   visited almost all pavilions represented at Biennale and being accompanied by a professional curator we could understand and feel contemporary art, which, unfortunately, you would nowhere see in Cherkassy City.   I am really looking forward to see the next Venice Biennale and, of course a new project Ukraine will represent thereat!"

A young winner of the program from Mykolaiv City, Mykyta Khudyakov said, - "I'd  like to live in the Ukrainian Pavilion, ancient Palazzo Papadopoli, lying on a meditative art-couch, created by a Ukrainian artist, Lesya Zayats. I will always have fadeless memories of my visit to Venice Biennale, of which I'd dreamt of for such a long time, and of the fabulous city of Venice".

The 52nd Venice Biennale has become a landmark event for Ukraine.  The Ukrainian Pavilion exhibition has been ranked among the three top events at the Biennale.  Claire Stebler, art-director of PinchukArtCentre said, - "It is important that these people have shared the success of their country.   They got a nice opportunity to look at it and assess it, to look at the exhibitions presented by other countries, and to look at ordinary things in a different way and to determine their own place within the world's culture".

The program was conducted from June 13 to June 26 by PinchukArtCentre jointly with "Novy Channel", "M1" entertainment Channel, "Hit FM" radio-station and "Fakty and Komentari" newspaper.  To become a winner of the Quiz Program the contenders had to show their knowledge in history of exhibitions showcased in PinchukArtCentre, and knowledge of the works and interesting facts form biographies of the Artists representing Ukraine at 52nd Venice Biennale.

The Ukrainian Pavilion exhibition titled "A Poem about an Inland Sea" showcases the works produced by eight artists from Ukraine, Germany, and the USA: Sergey Bratkov, Alexander Hnyliytskiy, Lesya Zayats, Boris Mikhailov, Jurgen Teller, Mark Tichner, Sam Taylor-Wood, and Dzine.

The 52nd Venice Biennale will be open for visitors until November 21.  The winner-country is to be determined on the last day of the exhibition.
